For Couples building towards foreverPremarital Counseling
Most couples spend more time researching the venue and decor than they do talking about how they want to handle conflict, money, or the weight of what they are each carrying into the relationship. That is not a judgment. It is just where many people start. But you're here and that is already saying you want something different.
WHAT IS IT?Our premarital counseling is a structured, personalized process that meets you where you actually are not where a checklist assumes you should be. We look at how you function together. The patterns you each inherited. The expectations you have not yet said out loud and the places where your visions of love and marriage do and don’t line up yet.
HOW IT WORKSSix, nine, or twelve sessions. Your choice.
Our premarital counseling is offered in packages of 6, 9, or 12 sessions. Each session is 1.5 hours. The package you choose shapes your journey and how much ground you cover together.
Session 1 // Intake and Assessment
We start by getting the full picture. How you got together, what the relationship has looked like so far, and what you'd each say is working and what isn't. We'll also ask about who you were before you met, and about the other important people in your lives.
Then we talk through what's most important to explore as you prepare for your future together, and build the rest of your sessions from there.
Session 2 and Beyond // Work
Each session is built around what the three of us decided together. Conflict and communication, sure, almost everyone wants that. But also the things that hold a marriage up over time: what you learned about love from the families you came from, what you're each carrying in, money, parenting if that's on the table for you, and how you'll stay connected when life gets hard.
These are the conversations most couples don't get to until they're already in the middle of something. You get to have them first.
Your Final Session // Reflection and Next Steps
The last session pulls it all together. Our goal is that you walk out with tools you'll actually use and real confidence in your ability to build the life you want. And we hope it includes a marriage that is mutually satisfying, connected, safe enough to be vulnerable in, resilient, full of joy, and a true demonstration of love in action.
If you need a Certificate of Completion for the TN County Clerk, we'll sign it.
A lot of couples also move into couples therapy after this, to keep working on something specific or just to keep the momentum. We offer that when we have availability.
Should we try premarital counseling?Saying the vows is the easy part. Living them requires real intention.

FAQYour questions deserve honest answers.
Here are the ones we hear most about premarital counseling:
-
We recommend starting once the marriage is being intentionally discussed in the relationship, but there is no wrong time to do this work. We have worked with couples at every stage, from newly committed to just a few months out from the ceremony. If you’re in a committed relationship and you’re ready to start, we’re ready.
-
No. This process is open to couples who are in a serious, committed relationship and building toward a shared future together. You do not need a ring or a wedding date on the calendar to start.
-
No. Our premarital counseling is not exclusive to any particular faith tradition. We work with couples across a wide range of cultural, spiritual, and religious backgrounds and shape the process around what is meaningful to you. If your faith is central to your relationship, it belongs in the conversation and we are willing and prepared to talk about it.
-
Good! That is exactly what this space is for. Finding the real friction, with support around you, is the whole point. We are not here to hand you a gold star or tell you everything looks fine. We are here to help you both say the true thing and figure out what to do with it together.
-
Yes. The state of Tennessee currently offers a small discount on your marriage license when you complete at least 4 hours of premarital counseling. Every premarital package here at Soulful Bloom meets that requirement. Once you have completed your package, simply submit the necessary paperwork to your therapist to sign. Please note that any notary costs associated with the documentation are the responsibility of the client.
